Cyprus has no dangerous infectious diseases. Visitors do not require any vaccinations
to travel to Cyprus.
Reading about average temperatures on the Island gives a reasonably accurate idea
of what the weather in Cyprus is like throughout the year, however variations do
exist across different towns / villages / regions. For example, inland temperatures
are considerably hotter during summer and somewhat colder in winter than the coastal
areas.
April
Spring is very short in Cyprus and this is the month where it occurs.Temperatures
slowly start to climb throughout the month. Pleasant sunshine with occasional rain
showers. Day temperatures average 25° C with an average of 4 days of rain.
May
Still very pleasant temperatures and by the end of the month, it starts to get much
hotter. By the middle of May, the rainy season has ended.The holiday season is also
well underway. Day temperatures average 26° C with an average of 2 days of rain.
June
The beaches are starting to get busier and visitors are now flocking to the Island
in large numbers. Day temperatures average 33° C with rain very unlikely.
July and August
Temperatures in both these months are usually the highest of the year and with this
comes a lot of humidity. Definitely a perfect time to spent days by the pool or
on the beach. Day temperatures can reach 40° C with virtually zero chance of rain.
September
In this month it is still sunny and hot, but temperatures drop slightly in comparison
to July and August. Humidity also decreases.Day temperatures average 33° C with
an average of 1 days rain.
October
Days are still warm but the evenings are cooler with a wonderful month to partake
in outdoor activities.Beaches are quieter than July & August, but the temperature
is still ideal for sunbathing. Day temperatures average 25° C with an average of
3 days of rain.
Sea Temperatures
In the open sea, temperatures rise to 27° C in July & August. In January – March
the coolest months, the average temperature is 17° C. During the other months, the
temperature is above 22° C.
Air Humidity
Humidity is highest in July and most of August. During the summer it can range from
40 – 60%.In the winter months it ranges from 60 – 90%. However, fog is rare and
typically occurs in early morning. Visibility is normally very good or excellent.
In the spring period there is low visibility which appears due to dust coming from
the African and Arabian areas.
Sunshine
Cyprus enjoys long periods of sunshine especially during the summer months with
11.5 hours of daylight. Even during the months of December and January, there can
be 5.5 hours of sunshine.
Winds
The winds over the island are usually light or moderate strength and relatively
variable in direction. Gales are sporadic and would normally occur during the winter
months but in general Cyprus suffers very little due to wind damage.
CLOTHING DURING DIFFERENT SEASON
Summer
During April and May, the days are warm and sunny, but temperatures remain cooler
at night. A long sleeved top, cardigan or a light jacket for the evenings is recommended.
From June to the end of August, very light summer clothing is a must. September
to October still has warm days and the evening starts to cool slightly. Light apparel
for the day and long sleeves for the evenings in October is recommended.
Winter
November has pleasantly warm days and in the sun t-shirts can be worn. However out
of the sun and in the evenings, it is advisable to wear a jumper or a light jacket.
December and January is when the Cyprus winter occurs, even though it feels more
like autumn for most visitors. It may rain occasionally, but you can still expect
days of glorious sunshine.Winter clothing is necessary, especially in the evenings.
The possibility of fairly warm days is always there during February, as is the occasional
rainfall, but it is best to come prepared with a mixture of clothing. Winter wear
may also be appropriate during March with its moderate but sometimes unpredictable
weather. Cyprus landscape changes entirely during these months as everything is
green and fresh. Bring your walking boots as there is a beautiful Island out there
waiting to be explored!
